The Joy of Rain Gardens: Beautify Your Property and Help The Earth Springfield Library To Host Free Program July 13

Are you concerned about water pollution, loss of valuable soil, climate change or all of the above? There is so much we can do by paying attention to where we direct the rain that falls on our properties and communities. In many developed areas, stormwater runs rapidly across paved surfaces, off roofs and lawns, and gardens, carrying soil and pollutants into the rivers. Furthermore, the natural water cycle is disrupted, which contributes to droughts, floods, excess heat and violent weather.

What is needed? Help the rain to spread out, slow down, soak in, and renew the water cycle! Come learn how individuals and communities can help alleviate stormwater pollution, erosion and climate change through functional attractive rain gardens and other "green" approaches. In addition you can improve the beauty of your property, maintain your well level, keep your lawn and garden healthy, and increase the value of your property.

Jan Lambert of Voices of Water for Climate will team up with Kelly Stettner of the Black River Action Team to explain the HOW and WHY of rain gardens and other "green" approaches.
