Adult Formation Series at St. Luke's

posted Friday, September 25, 2015

The Rev. Heidi L. Edson, Rector at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Is hosting a new series of study for adults entitled, "Two Writings of Wisdom." The group study begins with the Book of Proverbs and will then continue on to Ecclesiastes (or Qoheleth). This study is open to all interested persons who might enjoy becoming more familiar with ancient Hebraic wisdom literature found in the Bible and in the Deuterocanonical Writings (Apocryphal) as well.

Why do a study about Hebraic Wisdom Literature? Unlike the Law and Prophets that make up a large component of the Hebrew Writings (Old Testament Bible) and that give the salvation history of Israel, the Wisdom Writings are compositions of poetry, proverbs, and sayings or teachings from daily life experiences. These Writings offer us wisdom for how to live life more fully as God intends.

The study group meets every Wednesday from 10:30 am to 11:30 am in Willard Hall at the church, 313 Main Street in Chester. Each session is stand-alone with a short presentation, followed by reading the text together in the group with time for discussion. Bibles will be available or bring your own.
