First Annual Pansy Festival at Singing River Farm May 2

posted Friday, April 24, 2015

Come celebrate Spring with colorful field-grown pansies. The First Annual Pansy Festival takes place Saturday, May 2, from noon to 4, at Singing River Farm in Rockingham, VT. The event is free and will happen outdoors rain or shine so bring sunscreen or umbrellas as needed.

Fun is planned for all ages, including group singing, short educational programs, face painting, crafts activities, and more. Farmers Laurel Green and Steve Crofter, the hosts of the festival, invite you to join in this community gathering as a way to meet your neighbors and enjoy Spring. As a family-friendly event, the Pansy Festival is tobacco and alcohol free, and the farmers request that you leave your dogs at home.

At the Farm Stand there will be pansies available for purchase as well as dry beans for cooking or planting, sunflower seeds for snacking, rhubarb jam, and more.

A "Three Sisters Lunch" will be for sale including vegan chili, corn muffins (gluten free and dairy free), and zucchini bread, all made with key ingredients from Singing River Farm. The name "Three Sisters" comes from the traditional Native American polycultural practice of growing and eating three nutritional staple crops together - beans, corn, and squash. In addition to the lunch, Autumn Berry Lemonade will also be for sale.

The Pansy Festival will take place at Singing River Farm, on Brockways Mills Road in Rockingham, one tenth of a mile north of Vermont Route 103 between I-91 Exit 6 and Chester. For more information, contact Laurel or Steve at 802-275-4646 or email [email protected].
