Seder Celebrated at St. Luke's Episcopal Church April 1
St. Luke's Episcopal Church at 313 Main Street in Chester will again offer a traditional Seder Meal, Wednesday, April 1st at 6:00 p.m. in Willard Hall. The text for the evening, the "Haggadah," includes songs, readings, and responses, along with explanations of the various symbolic foods that will be used to tell the Exodus story. Following the symbolic meal, a delicious dinner of roast lamb, chicken, goat, vegetables, and macaroons and meringues will be served.
The Passover Seder marks the night when the Israelites were "passed over" by the angel of death when the tenth and final plague - the death of all the firstborn - was visited upon Egypt. The angel passed over all homes marked by lamb's blood on the doorpost. The lamb whose blood on the doorposts ensured salvation was referred to as the paschal lamb. The paschal lamb was then eaten that night at "the Lord's Passover."
There will be no charge for the Seder Meal, but a freewill offering will be taken to benefit "Kids for Peace." The Seder is a family-centered affair and children have a significant part to play. It is rich in tradition and a time for joy, good eating, singing and celebrating God's redemption of us all. We hope you will come join us.
Reservations will be recommended since the space in Willard Hall is limited to about 85 persons. Call Lew and Bonnie Watters at 802.875.2114 to reserve your seat.
