Come to the St. Luke's Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper (Feb. 17)

posted Saturday, February 7, 2015

Pancake Day, Pancake Tuesday, Shrove Tuesday are all different ways of describing the day before Ash Wednesday when Lent begins. In New Orleans, the term Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday, referring to the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting.

Whatever you call it, at St. Luke's it is a wonderful family tradition. The Joy of Cooking recipe for our spectacular pancake batter is the mainstay, as is sausage and fruit salad. The date is Tuesday, February 17, beginning at 5:30 in Willard Hall at the St. Luke's Episcopal Church at 313 Main Street in Chester. The supper is free and all are welcome. However, there will be baskets on each table for a free will offering to benefit Episcopal Relief and Development. Details are on the Special Events page at www.stlukesepiscopalvt.org.

There will be two Ash Wednesday services in the sanctuary on Wednesday, February 18, 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The celebrant is St. Luke's new rector, Rev. Heidi L. Edson.
