First Thursday Rotary Meeting in Chester, November 6
The Chester Rotary Club has invited Hugh Howard Henry to speak at its First Thursday Rotary meeting to be held on November 6, 2014 at 5:30 P.M. at The Fullerton Inn, On the Green, Chester, Vermont.
Known locally by both given names, Hugh Howard Henry belongs among the few architectural historians now active in Vermont. Mr. Henry comes from a family that settled in Chester about 1800, and he remains a life-long resident. After graduating from then-Chester High School, he received a degree in geography from Dartmouth College, and subsequently pursued graduate study in other disciplines. The latter culminated in architectural history, and he has practiced professionally during four decades. He has surveyed, photographed, and researched nearly the entire gamut of historic architectural and structural resources throughout Vermont.
His professional career began with a project to prepare nominations of all the covered bridges in the state to the National Register of Historic Places. Then an intensive effort in 1984 reflected his personal interest in preparing the National Register nomination of Chester (South) Village. His activities in this century focus on the distinctive resources of the historic hydroelectric generating stations in Vermont, thereby blending professional and personal interests in the waterways and canoeing.
There is no charge to attend the meeting and no RSVP is required.
