"The Enchanted Forest" is a well-loved, outdoor storytelling event for families. This year it will take place on Oct. 4th, 2014 on the nature trail behind Green Mountain Union High School in Chester. Audiences travel along a candlelit path through the woods to hear a folk tale, with mimes acting out the story at campfires. The performance finishes with dance and song, which are created especially for this occasion and fully involve the audience.

This year's story is based on the Russian folk tale, "The Language of the Birds." Storytellers Julian Leon, Meg Minehan, and Grace Brigham will recount the story of young Ivan who learns the language of the birds and uses it to understand many situations. Julane Deener and students will provide musical accompaniment, Melissa Post will lead the dance, and Will Danforth will lead the singing.

The performance is approximately one hour long, with shows starting every half hour. Tickets may be purchased for the 5:30, 6:00, 6:30, 7:00, and 7:30 p.m. shows.

Since seating is limited, it is advisable to purchase tickets ahead of time; unsold tickets will be available at the gate. Advance tickets can be purchased at Misty Valley Books in Chester for $2 per person for ages 3 and up.

In case of rain, the performance will take place the next evening, Oct. 5th at the same times. The decision of whether or not to postpone will be made by 3 p.m. on Oct. 4th.

This event is produced by the Chester Conservation Committee.
